School House
A one-teacher school built in 1876 at Blantyre, near Boonah, complete with its ‘Good Manners’ chart.
The School House was built in 1876 at Blantyre, near Boonah, and served as a one-teacher school for nearly six decades. At its peak, up to 58 children aged from 5 to 14 were taught in this single room.
Inside, remnants of early classroom life remain: a ‘Good Manners’ chart once used to instil proper behaviour, and a cane for discipline. Lessons were often taught by rote, and the school day followed a structured routine of literacy, arithmetic and moral instruction.
School groups visiting the Village can step into this classroom of the past. See our School Excursions page for details.
