Dairy Cream Shed, Old Dairy and Cow Bails
The Village’s dairy display: a cream shed from Blenheim and the dairy and cow bails rebuilt by volunteers in 2003.
Dairying emerged at the turn of the 20th century as one of Queensland’s most important industries, and it played an integral part in the development of Laidley and the surrounding districts. Blenheim was once the major dairying district of the Laidley Shire.
The Dairy and Cow Bails originally stood at Plainland, on the site where Woolworths now stands. The structure was dismantled, relocated and rebuilt by Historical Society volunteers in 2003. It represents an era when small-scale dairy operations were the backbone of rural life and farmers relied on hand-milking, cream separators and traditional butter churns.
The Cream Shed, originally from Blenheim, has been preserved and relocated to form part of the Village’s extensive dairy display. Together the buildings show the tools, equipment and techniques used by generations of dairy farmers, and pay tribute to the dairy farmers of Blenheim and the Laidley Shire.
